1. You must post at least one open-ended (deep) question or a significant observation (one that will spark thought and, hopefully, dialogue) about the text.

2. You must post at least THREE substantial responses to at least THREE of the questions posed by Mrs. M. Questions posed will be from the DiYanni text.

3. You must post at least THREE substantial responses to at least THREE of the questions posed by your classmates as well.

4. A SUBSTANTIAL post is a response that does one of two things. It either DEEPENS the conversation by using examples from the text or making a real-life connection or a text-to-text connection, or it WIDENS the conversation by taking it into a new direction by posing a new thought-provoking question, or adding in some "food for thought". ("Food for thought" is any unique idea that sparks new thoughts about a topic or shows new insight on a topic under discussion.)

5. If you disagree with someone’s statement(s), respond to that person to push them to qualify their answers. I am also not opposed to the idea of you playing the devil’s advocate (taking an opposite viewpoint just for the sake of argument). As is true in the classroom, you must disagree in a respectful and courteous way, and sometimes you may have to agree to disagree, but it is okay to use this forum for academic debate. In fact, I encourage it!

6. When responding to a specific person's post, please start your response with @+person's name. For example, if you want to respond to something I've said, you will start out your response with "@jmorgenson."
